ASKING TO BE RAPED!!!

I truly cant believe some of the comments posted by males and worst of all females,on how their belief is that women ASKED to be raped! Explain to me how a women asks to be raped because of attire or the amount of alcohol she may have consummed? If a women walks down the street naked is that an invitation for rape? If a 12yr old is raped, is she asking for it because she was wearing a little pink jogging suit? Have any of these comments came from anyone who has been close to a rape victum? I think not. What about the dear old lady living in your neighboorhood that has her home broken into, and is robbed and raped, was she asking for it?! I am dismayed that sexual violence within a marrige or long term relationship is still accepted in todays society.Especially the comment i read "if you dont want sex, get divorced". If a women does not want to have sex, then under no cicumstances should she be forced to! Whether its within a marrige or not. Maybe some need to read case studies from rape victims, and read the statistics as to how many women are raped because of their dresswear or life style. Hopefully this will change their attitudes. Shame on all that believe anyone asks to be raped, and God forbid it should ever happen to them.

Challenging men's pseudo sex right to women is one of the central reasons why rape and male sexual violence against women continues to be a highly controversial issue.

News flash - women are not men's sexual service stations and women have the right of sexual autonomy and ownership of their bodies. However because we live in a male supremacist society only men are accorded this right.

This is why innumerable rape myths are circulating and why 'women are supposedly asking to be raped.'

We need to challenge men's embedded sense of sex right to women and why so many men believe using coercion, pressure, threats of force or simply just ignoring the woman's autonomy is not supposedly rape.

Diversionary tactics such as 'how much did the woman drink?' Is she a virgin or a slut? Did the woman engage in any sexual activity with man prior to his raping her? All these questions are designed to ensure focus is always on the woman and never on the man's behaviour/belief system because men must never ever be held accountable for their actions/sexual behaviour.

This latest campaign is an excellent one which is why it is attracting so many misogynists determined to excuse/justify male sexual violence against women.

As long as women are presented as packaging around places to poke pricks, there will be rape. As long as (some) men choose to believe that lie, there will be rape. As long as (some) women collude with that lie in a misguided belief that it will protect them, there will be rape. As long as people think rape and sexual assault are primarily about arousal, there will be rape. As long as men who are not rapists remain silent about their abhorrence to abuse of power, there will be rape. A society's and an individual's values are apparent in the way those who are in any way vulnerable are treated. What kind of society and individuals are we when having an erection is justifiable grounds for rape?

Of course no one deserves to get raped however some woman are asking for sex. They go out dressed to make themselves look available and flirt to lead men on and then when the situation gets out of hand they cry rape. How are men supposed to know that no means no when they have been getting been mixed messages?

I am not saying that this is true is all cases but definitely in some.
