Gender options

Transgender is not a third gender, it is a descriptive term. Transgender people can be women (trans women) or men (trans men) or non-binary identified folk. Trans people, if binary identified, are not some kind of third gender, they're men and women just like cisgender people. What a shame that such an excellent site and campaign fails on such a basic thing.

Given that trans women are one of the greatest risk groups for violence including sexual violence (as a percentage, greater than cisgender women), and yet you're lumping them together with trans men under the banner of "transgender", I really feel you should re-think this. Why not "woman / man / non-binary person"? Still far from perfect but better than this!!

Which part of the site is it you're criticising Rosie? Violence against trans men and women is a really important issue i'd agree but I think the reasons for why it happens might be fuelled more by homophobia. That doesn't make the issue any less important, just different than the issues raised by this campaign I would have thought.

I would have preferred the option to say genderqueer male-identified, but having trans identites even acknowledged is more than we typically get here in the states.

Agreed, Rosie. 'Woman / man / non-binary person' would be a far better and no more complicated set of options.
